Silicone Foam and Application Areas – Overview

Silicone foam, as a high-performance porous polymer elastomer, is now widely used in many fields such as automotive, energy storage, new energy, rail transportation and aviation.

What is silicone foam?

  • Silicone foam material (also known as: silicone foam / foam silicone), is a silicone rubber rubber, filler, chemical accelerator, foam, etc. as raw materials, mixing and smelting, and then by a special process under high pressure and high temperature made of a kind of porous, low-density, compressible polymer elastomer. Because of the high elasticity of silicone rubber, but also with the foam material has the sound insulation, shock absorption and other properties, silicone foam is widely used, mostly used as damping pads, sealing gaskets, sound-absorbing materials, insulating materials, airlines, thermal insulation materials.

What are the properties of silicone foam?

  • Silicone foam matrix density of 1.17g/cm3, but through the foaming process, the current mature process of preparation of organic silicone foam material density can be as low as 0.16-0.20 g/cm³, can be used for automotive seats, headrests and other parts; and conventional silicone rubber foam material (density of 0.35g/cm³) is widely used for sealing, shock absorption and other parts of the gap filling.
  • According to scientific experimental research, added flame retardant silicone foam has good flame retardant properties, flame retardant grade can reach UL94-V0, applied to electric vehicles, can be very good to reduce the problems caused by combustion.
  • With the increase in the amount of physical filler, the volume resistivity and surface resistivity of silicone rubber is a trend of reduction, dielectric constant and dielectric loss factor overall trend of increase. It can be seen that the addition of physical fillers to a certain extent damage the electrical insulation properties of silicone rubber.

  5. Wind power industry
    Features: high and low temperature resistance, heat aging resistance, UV resistance, high flame retardant sealing material.
